Reiki is a system of natural healing involving the “laying-on” of hands which allows the practitioner to channel energy into the client through touch.  Reiki energy or “universal life energy” as it is also known, activates the natural healing processes of the body to enhance physical and emotional well-being.

Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle yet powerful complementary health modality.  The beauty of Reiki  is it can be safely used to support orthodox and complementary medicine as it doesn’t interfere with or diminish the intended effects of other health or medical practices.  It is increasingly becoming more widely accepted in health and community care facilities.

Reiki is thought to have been first used by the Tibetan Buddhist Monks thousands of years ago, but was rediscovered in the 1800’s by Mikao Usui.  Dr Usui through his own research and experienced developed a Reiki healing system, which was the beginning of what we know as Reiki today.

What To Expect During Your Reiki Session

Your practitioner has a dedicated consultation room, where you will be either seated or lying down, (which will depend on your needs).  Be sure to let the practitioner know if you have a health condition that might impact your lying flat on your back or front or if you have any areas that are sensitive to touch.

Soft, relaxing music will be playing in the background and essential oils maybe used to assist you in sinking into deep relaxation.  If you prefer silence during your session please advise your practitioner.  You will remain fully clothed during the session, so it is important to wear something comfortable.
Prior to the commencement of your first session you will be required to complete a client history form and consent form.  This ensures that the session meets your needs.  If you have any concerns you would like addressed during the session please discuss this with your practitioner during this stage of your session.

Reiki sessions are usually 60 minutes.  A 30 minute session is available on request.  Allow an extra half an hour for your first session to complete the required paperwork and discuss any concerns with your practitioner.

Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch or hands held just off the body.  The practitioner’s hands are placed and held on a series of locations on the head, front and back of the body as well as the feet. The placement of the hands in not intrusive or inappropriate.
